The Citizen Leadership project helps youth understand how government works and how they can become active, informed members of their communities. Through hands-on activities, community service, meetings with local leaders, and real-world civic experiences, members explore the different branches of government, public service, and the role citizens play in their communities. Participants will build leadership and communication skills while learning about government through experiences such as a Mock Congress, visits with elected officials and judges, attendance at a local government meeting, and leadership projects.

For the 2026–2027 4-H year, Denton County 4-H is partnering with the Center for Women in Government at Texas Woman’s University for a special Citizen Leadership Project. The program runs throughout the school year and is open to any enrolled 4-H member. Participants will have opportunities to learn about the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of government, serve their community, explore careers in public service, and gain practical insight into local government.
