Tips for choosing a project:

• Select a project (or projects) you like.

• Consider the money and time it will take. Can parents/guardians help?

• Consider the space and equipment that you have at home.

• a 4-H project should be fun, serve a purpose, and be worth the effort.

• Select only the number of projects you can complete

• Contact your local county club to see which projects are already offered where you live.

Self-Directed Projects

Have an interest you want to explore but don’t see a 4-H project that quite fits? A Self-Directed Project may be a great option!

Self-directed projects allow 4-H members to explore a topic or interest that is not currently covered by one of our established project areas. With guidance from a 4-H volunteer and your County Extension Agent, members can develop their interest into a meaningful 4-H project with opportunities to set goals, learn new skills, and document their experiences.

Because these projects fall outside of established Texas 4-H project areas, curriculum, activities, contests, and other resources may be limited or may not be available through the Texas 4-H Youth Development Program. Members and families should be prepared to take an active role in finding resources and developing their project experience.
